How To Sublimate a Bar Runner

Producing customised bar runners / bar mats is easy using the dye sublimation printing process.

Our handy how to press video can be viewed below-

1) Design Process

You will need to create the artwork for your bar runner design on your computer. Ensure you measure the bar runner and size your artwork accordingly.

Ideally use a good piece of photo editing software.

Popular software choices are Adobe Photoshop, Coral Draw, Serif Affinity Photo or Designer.

We tend to print our design slightly larger than mouse mat to allow the image to fully cover the surface.

2) Preparing your bar runner

It is advised to use a lint roller to ensure there are no fibres or dust on your bar runner. This takes a few minutes and ensures a fantastic finish each time.

3) Preparing your printed design

Take your printed paper transfer and trim tall edges of the design to ensure the edges of your paper are clean and free of unwanted ink.

Place your bar runner on a flat working surface.

Place your printed transfer design over the mouse mat.

Secure using heat resistant tape.

4) Pressing your bar runner

We recommend these are pressed at:

Temperature: 180c
Time: 60 seconds
Pressure: Medium

Step by step method

Generally we find the following process works well;

Turn on your heat press.

Set the temperature and time.

Allow the heat press to come up to temperature.

When the heat press is at the correct temperature you are ready to press.

  • Apply your printed transfer to your bar runner and secure using heat tape.
  • Place your bar runner into your heat press.
  • Close the heat press clamp and start the timer.
  • Press for 60 seconds.
  • When the time expires open the heat press.
  • Remove the mouse mat and allow it to cool.
  • Remove the paper transfer.
