Cleaning blocked printing heads

We recommend to use your dye sublimation printer as often as possible. As with any inkjet printer the liquid ink can dry and block in the printing heads if the printer is left unused for a period of time.

If your printing heads are blocked they can be cleaned using the printers maintenance section within the printer driver. Most printers have two cleaning options; Head Cleaning and Power Cleaning (sometimes displayed as Power Ink Flushing).

For severe blockages the printing heads can also be cleaned using a print head cleaning fluid. This is manually injected through the printing head and left to soak. This breaks down dried ink residue and sediment.

  1. Head  cleaning is the first option to attempt to clear the blockage; this is a standard cleaning cycle and is the first thing to try.
  2. Power Clean or Power Ink Flushing is the second option to attempt; this is a more powerful cleaning cycle, this does use more ink but is excellent for stubborn blockages.
  3. The last option if head cleaning and power cleaning procedures have failed is to clean the printing heads manually using cleaning fluid.
